Table includes the following public data: Certificate number, Ownership Name, DBA ( "doing business as" -- business name), Situs (business location) Address, Mailing Address, Business and Location Numbers (indicating multiple, if applicable), Start Date of DBA & Location, Business Class*, and PBC**.
* Business Class is a numerical code from 00 - 16 used by the City & County of San Francisco do describe a general categorization of business types.
** PBC (Principal Business Code) is an older coding system used to provide a more specific indication the type of business activity.

DISCLAIMER: The information contained in this dataset is uploaded weekly from the City's business registration database. It reflects the manual data entry of self-reported information as submitted by the registrant to the Office of the Treasurer & Tax Collector (TTX) and is therefore subject to typographical error. Changes in a business' legal ownership, business name ("dba"), addresses, business type, or "active/inactive" status must have been signed by an owner or other authorized representative of the business and submitted to TTX in order for them to be reflected in this listing. Businesses that have ceased operations in San Francisco without official notification to TTX may still appear in this listing as "active."
Principal Business Codes (PBCs) provide a limited list of available coding options. They are assigned based upon the interpretation by TTX staff of self-reported business activity descriptions provided by registrants on their applications or update forms. The full list of PBCs used by TTX does not cover all business types and is lacking in specificity within many business areas, particularly with regard to business descriptions that can only be categorized under the heading "Other Business Services." Please note that some business types may be coded under a descriptor differing in wording than what might be expected -- e.g., "Restaurants" are coded under the pre-defined descriptor "Eating Places." For this reason, users are encouraged to review the full list of PBCs (and Business Classes) if trying to identify a certain category of business.
