SAN FRANCISCO INNOVATIONS SHOWCASE

The DataSF App Showcase celebrates the innovators and innovations who are championing the Mayor’s vision of a more collaborative and open government. The public can browse examples of new ways in which Bay Area constituents are using City data to improve San Francisco. If you have an application using City data not in our showcase, we would like to hear from you.

	Crimespotting – San Francisco Crimespotting is an interactive map of crimes in San Francisco and a tool for understanding crime in cities.
	EveryBlock – EveryBlock publishes a news feed for every city block in San Francisco.  Enter your street address, neighborhood or ZIP code, and the site shows you recent nearby mainstream/blog news coverage, police calls, building permits, restaurant inspections and much more — updated throughout the day, every day.
	CleanScores – CleanScores is bringing you the health inspection scores of restaurants around San Francisco.
	EcoFinder – EcoFinder for iPhone and iPod Touch helps you find out where to recycle and properly dispose of just about everything. You select the material you need to recycle or dispose of, and the EcoFinder will show you the relevant businesses and services closest to you.
	Routesy San Francisco – Routesy will help you find your way around the Bay Area’s top transit systems — San Francisco Muni and BART — in real time. Simply choose the line you want to ride, and Routesy will show you the closest stop or station, along with real-time prediction data to make sure you make it on time.
	SpotCrime - SpotCrime is a crime data aggregator. We map the crime incidents, plot them on Google Maps, and deliver alerts via email, Facebook, Twitter, SMS, RSS and a multitude of other platforms.
	CrimeReports – CrimeReports provides access to crime data at the street level using Google Maps. Users can see data for their neighborhood by simply entering their address. There is no advertising on the site and the data is updated daily. Users can also create free accounts on the site if they would like to receive email alerts when crimes occur near their home or work.
	BART Arrivals – BART Arrivals is an application that displays real time BART train arrival times and alerts. It runs on Netvibes, iGoogle, Apple Dashboard, Vista Sidebar and Opera. Having selected a station, the widget will display the estimated arrival times of the next 3 trains for each destination the station serves. In addition, BART service advisories/alerts are displayed, if any.
	Your Mapper – Your Mapper takes San Francisco’s Crime Data and plots it on street-level interactive maps.  Citizens can see the closest crimes to any address.  The application offers KML, RSS, CSV, and XOMGL data feeds of all the searches.  The robust API lets  developers tap the information for their own web-apps.   All reports can be accessed on the mobile maps as well.
	RailBandit – RailBandit allows you to easily view train schedules, map your trip and more on your mobile phone. RailBandit includes a number of train schedules that are (virtually) combined into a single network. Select the train lines you are interested in, then the corresponding schedules are downloaded and stored locally on the phone. For the Bay Area: SF Muni, BART, Caltrain, Amtrak and the Altamont Commuter Express are included.  RailBandit has just been updated to included live train delay updates for BART.
	Dadnab – Dadnab is a text messaging service that plans trips on public transportation. Send a text message with an origin, destination, and optional departure or arrival time, and Dadnab replies with step-by-step transit directions.
	Mom Maps – Mom Maps is a new iPhone application that helps you find kid friendly locations in San Francisco. It contains an extensive list of parks, playgrounds, restaurants, museums and indoor play areas that are kid friendly and fun. Using GPS you’ll see results which are close to you, plus a map to get you there.
	MuniApp – MuniApp gives you access to San Francisco’s MUNI transit system on the go with real time predictions for buses, metro and cable cars. Locate nearby stops and their respective bus routes based on user location, or quickly navigate through the bus lines and stops to access prediction information.
	iCommute SF – powered by Nextbus helps you locate, organize and access route information for San Francisco’s Bay Area Transit lines with real-time arrival predictions. Not sure which stop to choose, the GPS locationd device will point you to the nearest stop based on your location. You can also save your most frequent commuter lines into your favorites for easy access. iCommute SF Lite is also available for free.
	The Original Parking Locator – Where’s my car? We’ve all been there! The Parking Locator will organize your parking locations, and guide you back to finding your car is ease! An easy to use interface for taking photos of your parking landmarks, adding notes and important details to fully document items like signs and walkways! Enter parking information manually such as the level you are parked, the area, or the numbered spot you are at, even colored names to specify your level. Special integrated features for all the major Bay Area airports for flight schedules, airports services, parking fees & information, as well as security, roadside assistance and more.
	TransiCast – TransiCast is a transit service browser app for the Android mobile platform. Explore real-time departure information in San Francisco (SFMTA and BART), Portland (TriMet) and Chicago (CTA Bus). TransiCast 2.0 introduces location based next stop tracking for these,  every major city on the West Coast, and many more.
	HowSFVotes – HowSFVotes is a tool for exploring historical election results in San Francisco precinct-by-precinct. Use it to compare and analyze results from federal, state and local races from 2004 to the present as well as the 2000 census.
	iBART – iBART and iBART Live are BART trip planning apps for iPhone by Pandav Inc. They leverage BART’s open GTFS schedule data to plan trips without internet, and iBART Live uses BART’s real-time arrival feed to display upcoming arrivals. Both apps also use the Service Advisories RSS feed to provide up-to-date system information. They feature station parking and bike facility information, a handsome multi-touch system map, and a More Info section with relevant phone numbers and links.
	SF Trees – Walk up to any tree in the beautiful city of San Francisco and find out exactly what type of tree you’re looking at by using your iPhone! SF Trees will tell you both the Latin and the common name for that tree as well as all the other trees in your vicinity. This app is based on data provided by the San Francisco Department of Public Works (SFDPW) and contains details of the nearly 65,000 trees from the Golden Gate Bridge down to Daly City that they keep track of and/or maintain. Go on, give it a hug – you’ve already been introduced!
	After School Special - After School Special uses San Francisco Public and Private school datasets and combines them with available library and food information. It is meant to be a planning tool as well as a visualization of neighborhood healthy choice disparities that may effect school-aged children and high school students.
	SpatialKey - SpatialKey is a powerful, innovative, web-based location intelligence solution that enables interactive analyses and reports to be created and shared by decision makers in minutes. No programming. No specialists. No waiting. We’ve been using SpatialKey to look at San Francisco data downloaded from DataSF.org. There are mountains of interesting data available for San Francisco, but the crime data from the SFPD is one of the most interesting datasets. When you load in the crime data you instantly see some powerful images, which show the intense concentration of crime in certain areas of San Francisco. You can open up the sample report that we created to visualize these crimes.
	Accessible Parking SF - The application displays the driving directions between two points and shows the accessible parking spots within a given radius from the destination.
	Transit-bay - provides blind or vision-impaired BART travelers real-time departure times through our voice-recognition software. You say your departure station in everyday language, for example: 12th St. Oakland City Center you can say “12th”, or “12th Oakland” and our speech synthesis will respond with all real-time departure trains from this station. It will also tell you any BART system service advisories. Access is free to the platform and can be done in numerous ways: – by Skype phone – by SIP phone – by Inum phone. 	Real-time Bart for your cell phone – Simple way to look up real-time info on BART trains from your mobile phone. No maps, no fuss, just an easy to use application to get you to the train on time.
	Transit Time Map – A transit time map shows how far you can travel on public transit from a given location in a certain amount of time. This map is a baby step towards helping you find a walkable, transit-friendly place to live so that you can ditch the zero (your car) and get with the hero (your new walkable condo near a light rail stop).
	CrimeMapping.com – This portal is dedicated to helping San Francisco Police Department provide the public with valuable information about crime activity by neighborhood. A well informed public has been proven effective in reducing crime. Citizens can also receive free Crime Alerts via e-mail.
