EveryBlock – EveryBlock publishes a news feed for every city block in San Francisco. Enter your street address, neighborhood or ZIP code, and the site shows you recent nearby mainstream/blog news coverage, police calls, building permits, restaurant inspections and much more — updated throughout the day, every day.

CleanScores – CleanScores is bringing you the health inspection scores of restaurants around San Francisco.

SpotCrime - SpotCrime is a crime data aggregator. We map the crime incidents, plot them on Google Maps, and deliver alerts via email, Facebook, Twitter, SMS, RSS and a multitude of other platforms.

BART Arrivals – BART Arrivals is an application that displays real time BART train arrival times and alerts. It runs on Netvibes, iGoogle, Apple Dashboard, Vista Sidebar and Opera. Having selected a station, the widget will display the estimated arrival times of the next 3 trains for each destination the station serves. In addition, BART service advisories/alerts are displayed, if any.

EcoFinder – EcoFinder for iPhone and iPod Touch helps you find out where to recycle and properly dispose of just about everything. You select the material you need to recycle or dispose of, and the EcoFinder will show you the relevant businesses and services closest to you.

Mom Maps – Mom Maps is a new iPhone application that helps you find kid friendly locations in San Francisco. It contains an extensive list of parks, playgrounds, restaurants, museums and indoor play areas that are kid friendly and fun. Using GPS you’ll see results which are close to you, plus a map to get you there.

CrimeReports – CrimeReports provides access to crime data at the street level using Google Maps. Users can see data for their neighborhood by simply entering their address. There is no advertising on the site and the data is updated daily. Users can also create free accounts on the site if they would like to receive email alerts when crimes occur near their home or work.

RailBandit – RailBandit allows you to easily view train schedules, map your trip and more on your mobile phone.

RailBandit includes a number of train schedules that are (virtually) combined into a single network. Select the train lines you are interested in, then the corresponding schedules are downloaded and stored locally on the phone. For the Bay Area: SF Muni, BART, Caltrain, Amtrak and the Altamont Commuter Express are included. RailBandit has just been updated to included live train delay updates for BART.

HowSFVotes – HowSFVotes is a tool for exploring historical election results in San Francisco precinct-by-precinct. Use it to compare and analyze results from federal, state and local races from 2004 to the present as well as the 2000 census.

Your Mapper – Your Mapper takes San Francisco’s Crime Data and plots it on street-level interactive maps. Citizens can see the closest crimes to any address. The application offers KML, RSS, CSV, and XOMGL data feeds of all the searches. The robust API lets developers tap the information for their own web-apps. All reports can be accessed on the mobile maps as well.

Dadnab – Dadnab is a text messaging service that plans trips on public transportation. Send a text message with an origin, destination, and optional departure or arrival time, and Dadnab replies with step-by-step transit directions.

SF Trees - Walk up to any tree in the beautiful city of San Francisco and find out exactly what type of tree you’re looking at by using your iPhone! SF Trees will tell you both the Latin and the common name for that tree as well as all the other trees in your vicinity. This app is based on data provided by the San Francisco Department of Public Works (SFDPW) and contains details of the nearly 65,000 trees from the Golden Gate Bridge down to Daly City that they keep track of and/or maintain. Go on, give it a hug – you’ve already been introduced!

After School Special - After School Special uses San Francisco Public and Private school datasets and combines them with available library and food information. It is meant to be a planning tool as well as a visualization of neighborhood healthy choice disparities that may effect school-aged children and high school students.

SpatialKey - SpatialKey is a powerful, innovative, web-based location intelligence solution that enables interactive analyses and reports to be created and shared by decision makers in minutes. No programming. No specialists. No waiting. We’ve been using SpatialKey to look at San Francisco data downloaded from DataSF.org. There are mountains of interesting data available for San Francisco, but the crime data from the SFPD is one of the most interesting datasets. When you load in the crime data you instantly see some powerful images, which show the intense concentration of crime in certain areas of San Francisco. You can open up the sample report that we created to visualize these crimes.

Cabulous – Cabulous is a GPS-based smartphone application that makes it fast, easy, and even fun for passengers and taxi drivers to find each other in SF. Currently available on the iPhone, Cabulous allows you to see empty cabs nearby on a map, hail one instantly with the touch of a button, and then visually track its progress on your Cabulous map. Your hailed driver, in turn, is able to use their own smartphone’s Cabulous application to visually track your location as they come to pick you up – even if you decide to walk around the block or go look for coffee. And if your driver is on a crowded street and you still can’t find each other, you can call one another directly through Cabulous.

CrimeMapping.com – This portal is dedicated to helping San Francisco Police Department provide the public with valuable information about crime activity by neighborhood. A well informed public has been proven effective in reducing crime. Citizens can also receive free Crime Alerts via e-mail.

iCommute SF – powered by Nextbus helps you locate, organize and access route information for San Francisco’s Bay Area Transit lines with real-time arrival predictions. Not sure which stop to choose, the GPS locationd device will point you to the nearest stop based on your location. You can also save your most frequent commuter lines into your favorites for easy access. iCommute SF Lite is also available for free.

Restaurant Inspector – This application for BlackBerry devices lets users view official restaurant inspection scores instantly. These are actual restaurant inspection scores reported by regional health departments. With our application being the medium between people and local health departments, one now has the capability in reaching out to the agencies by reporting health hazards on the spot. Parkzing – Parkzing’s iPhone application uses GPS and DataSF’s street cleaning schedule to pinpoint on what block a user has parked his/her car and then send a reminder the night before street cleaning to help the user avoid a ticket.

Are You Safe San Francisco – AreYouSafe San Francisco lets you know how safe you are at any given time based on your current location within the city. All it takes is a quick tap to see a simple visual depiction of your safety level in addition to hyperlocal crime data broken down by type. AreYouSafe San Francisco integrates the iPhone’s locator capabilities with up to date, detailed police crime statistics for the entire city. Urban Forest Map – The Urban Forest Map is a collective-collaborative project to celebrate and demonstrate the value of city trees and their contribution to urban ecosytems. Bringing together information from city agencies and local non-profit groups and, most importantly, with online input from community members, the project will map every tree in the city and calculate their environmental benefits–how many pounds of air pollution they are absorbing, how many gallons of stormwater they are filtering, and how many tons of carbon dioxide they are removing from the air.
