Building footprints

Posted by enf  | Categorized under Dataset
I just found out that the Planning Department has a map of the city that includes all the building footprints (http://www.sf-planning.org/ftp/files/publications_reports/library_of_cartography/City_Street_Map.pdf) Would it be possible to publish the data from which that map was generated?

While each City elected official, department, agency, commission and board hosts its own website, there is no master list containing contact information for each body's lead principal. With all this public information spread out across so many disparate data sources, a master list that compiles information for each body's lead administrator or principal(s) would make it easier for citizens to co

I would like to see many of these datasets for demographics (such as homeless populations), social services (food stamp applications, WIC, CalWORKS, MediCal), and crime reporting be posted not only for the whole county, but by census tract. Many GIS researchers use census tract as a basic geographical unit to study areas - zipcodes and counties are too big.

Treasure Island Development Plans

Posted by shawnbot  | Categorized under Dataset
The Treasure Island Development Authority maintains a publishing repository for submitted master development plans in PDF form. The public would stand to benefit from access to the GIS data used to create these submissions, which could be used to accurately compare the island's existing geography—everything from the current street

I'd like to suggest data regarding variances, historic designations and building outlines be made open and available in a usable format (not a PDF please). I see another suggestion for building outlines so this is just to second that idea. The historic and variances are helpful to know which properties have either received special consideration given their constraints or will need to be protect

This would include a count of all vehicles assigned to each City department and also show the list of vehicles for general use, shared among departments. Ideally, this would be broken down by vehicle type.

San Francisco solar irradiance

Posted by rkaris  | Categorized under Dataset
I would like to see daily or at least monthly insolation data from the SFPUC solar monitoring stations available online. Those who have photovoltaic systems need this data to determine how well their systems are performing and to know if any problems have occurred with their systems. Currently, the SFPUC has only the average data online. cf. http://www.sfog.us/solar/sfsites.htm
and http://sfw

as an excel file.

GPS Positions of Fire Trucks

Posted by ericrodenbeck  | Categorized under Dataset
A live xml feed of the GPS positions of fire engines/trucks around the city, similar to that consumed by http://cabspotting.org. For each minute, display latitude, longitude, and a unique identifier for each vehicle. If a live version is prohibitively expensive, a daily or hourly dump of this dataset would be made available for download & processing. It could have numerous uses, including indepen

List of solar PV permit addresses

Posted by databong  | Categorized under Dataset
This is the data behind sf.solarmap.org/ (which currently is broken because of an expired Google maps key).

The SF Solar Map application was built (at a crazily expensive cost) by CH2M Hill, a big contractor, which feels like it owns the data, when in fact, it is owned by San Francisco tax payers.

I would like to see a school drop-out rate by census tract or zip code that could then have an overlay by race, housing status (homeownership, rental, subsidized housing, etc.).

Parking Financials Data

Posted by rhettg  | Categorized under Dataset
I'd like to be able to analyze the financial and usage impact of the recent parking fee increase.

To be really effective we'd need the granularity of amount brought in each day (or other available interval) per meter and meter type (auto/motorcycle) and location (with gps coordinates, someone else already suggested that).
